Creative Academy Diploma in Dance Education

This course is designed as a 1 year (12 Month) intensive in which students will study and complete their Diploma in Dance Education (DDE) in Modern Theatre, Ballet and Tap. Students who gain these qualifications will be fully qualified to teach the ISTD syllabus for all 3 genres and enter candidates for examinations under their name. With this in mind the may apply for work at any practising dance school, open their own dance school and be eligible to train for higher ISTD teaching qualifications in the future. The course will take place at Creative Academy studios in our purpose built dance studios. Working alongside the vocational aspects of Creative Academy, students on the course will have an opportunity to observe the regular ISTD classes that take place weekly within the building.

Entry Requirements

To enrol on this course you must be over 18 years of age and hold your ISTD Intermediate Qualification in all disciplines.

Due to the nature of the course students must attend all 3 terms to complete the required module.

Whilst equivalents in other examination boards can be accepted, due to the nature of this course it is imperative that students have some prior knowledge the ISTD syllabus in all disciplines.

Course Fees & Funding

The cost of the course is £6250 for the year.

Funding for this is available through Advanced Learner Loans.

You would need to apply for multiple advanced leaner loans to cover the cost of the course however you are allowed to apply for up to 4 in your lifetime and these can be applied for all at the same time

Course Outline

Term 1

(14 weeks)

Unit 1- Preparing for Safe Teaching

Unit 2- Observation & Assisted Lessons

Unit 4- Dance Practice in Modern Theatre

The teaching of this course will take place over 3.5 days during the work week and will be delivered in a mix of practical based classes, lectures and 1 to 1 sessions resulting in 21 contact hours a week. Alongside this students will be expected to undertake up to 16 hours of independent learning a week. Practical examinations will take place in week 15 with dates being booked in before the start of the year.

 

Term 2

(12 weeks)

In Term 2 you will study:

Unit 4- Dance Practice in Tap

Unit 5- Social, Emotional & Cognitive Development

The teaching of this course will take place over 3.5 days during the work week and will be delivered in a mix of practical based classes, lectures and 1 to 1 sessions resulting in 21 contact hours a week. Alongside this students will be expected to undertake up to 16 hours of independent learning a week. Practical examinations will take place in week 15 with dates being booked in before the start of the year.

 

Term 3

(13 Week Term)

Unit 2- Teaching Practice

Unit 4- Dance Practice in Classical Ballet

The teaching of this course will take place over 3.5 days during the work week and will be delivered in a mix of practical based classes, lectures and 1 to 1 sessions resulting in 20 contact hours a week. Alongside the units listed above students will have weekly seminars in “Preparing for Exam Sessions” which will cover:

  • How to fill in an application form for ISTD Examinations
  • Working with Quest (The online system used by the ISTD)
  • Liaising with the ISTD HQ
  • How to contact and approach an examiner and organise an exam session

Alongside this students will be expected to undertake up to 16 hours of independent learning a week. Practical examinations will take place in week 15 with dates being booked in before the start of the year.
